The Iraqi Parliament convened its third session on Tuesday in order to elect its candidates for the positions of Speaker of Parliament and his two deputies after failing to nominate them in the first and second sessions. The parliament then held a closed session to vote on the election of one of the two deputies Salim Al Jabouri and Shuroq Al Abayeji for the position of Speaker of Parliament.

The new Iraqi parliament then named the deputy for the National Force Alliance, Salim Al Jabouri, as Speaker of Parliament after 194 deputies voted for him.

Mahdi Al Hafez indicated the participation of 273 deputies in the voting process., Al Jabouri received 194 votes while Shuroq Al Abayeji received 19 votes. Al Hafez also noted that there were 60 invalid or blank votes.
